Dr. Nadia Waheed MD, MPH
Nadia Waheed, MD, MPH has extensive experience as a retina specialist and surgeon, in ocular imaging, clinical research and as Chief Medical Officer at three biotech companies.
She heads the OCT Research Lab Program at the New England Eye Center/ Tufts Medical Center, and has a long-standing (more than 10 years!!) collaboration with Professor Jim Fujimoto at MIT in the evaluation and deployment of new OCT and OCTA technologies prior to their commercialization. She has also worked as a co-founder of the Boston Image Reading Center in evaluation OCT and OCTA based parameters as exploratory endpoints in clinical trials.
Dr. Waheed received her medical degree from the Aga Khan University Medical School, Pakistan, and a Masters in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. She trained in Ophthalmology at the Harvard Medical School/Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary Program in Ophthalmology and completed a fellowship in retina at the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary. She then joined the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute as faculty and later established the Retina Unit at the Shifa Hospital, following which she joined the Tufts Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Waheed has authored over 200 papers in peer-reviewed publications, has co-authored and edited three books in Ophthalmology, and has participated as a principal investigator or co-investigator in multiple clinical trials. She has served as the CMO of Gyroscope Therapeutics, CMO of Beacon Therapeutics, a clinical stage gene therapy company working in X-linked retinitis pigmentosa. and also currently serves as the CMO of Ocular Therapeutix. She has been recognized by both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Macula Society with an Achievement Award.
